Student Leadership

Fostering qualities of leadership and encouraging students to take up the challenge of additional responsibilities are an important part of life at Avila.

Responsibility, commitment, passion and resilience are the hallmarks of Avila’s student leaders. They are lifelong qualities that will enable our young women to make valuable contributions to the world of which they are an important part.

The vast range of leadership opportunities that are available, both formal and informal, provides students with invaluable experiences and help them to become strong, articulate and confident members of society in whichever path they pursue. At Avila students are encouraged to take up some form of leadership during their time at school. Not only can they develop their skills in public speaking, organisation and people management but they develop confidence which comes from actively participating in school events and having their voice heard.

In Years 8-12 there are specific leadership positions to enable students to develop their skills in a particular area of interest. These include Faith and Mission, Drama, Music, Sport, Public Speaking, Art and Stage Crew and one role Debating, and the House Captains. The younger girls work with older students and specialist staff members to plan and run events such as House sports days, creative arts festivals and debating competitions. Part of their role involves speaking at assemblies, assisting in planning a project and seeing it through to fruition.

Avila has developed formal leadership training sessions for students in preparation for senior leadership roles. The program focuses on practical skills such as time management, planning and running meetings and speaking before an audience.

At Avila College we believe that by allowing as many students as possible to experience meaningful Christian leadership, they will be better equipped to be active contributors in the wider community.
