VET Curriculum

As part of the VCE or VCAL program, students have a further option of undertaking a Vocational Education & Training (VET) Course at Avila College in two areas.

The VET in the VCE courses offered are;

  • Certificate II in Business
  • Certificate II in Hospitality

The major part of the work for all of these Certificates is done in Year 11 with some completion in Year 12.  These VET units count towards either the VCE or VCAL certificates.

Certificate II in Business

This course provides entry-level training, skills and knowledge to work as a clerical administrative worker in a wide range of industries. It involves completion of modules of work related to information and communication skills and technology, preparation of documents and spreadsheets, learning about the structure and function of organisations, the development of work-ready skills and work placement for some module assessments.

This course is offered over one year at Year 11, and provides the skills needed for Certificate III in Business in the future.

Students will complete the course with competencies that may provide opportunities as receptionists, clerks, junior secretaries, administrative clerks and word processors. These positions can then be developed with further training in the paid workforce.

Certificate II in Hospitality

At the end of this course students will have completed a Certificate II in Hospitality, which allows them to continue with a follow up Certificate the next year. This Certificate involves a significant amount of practical work and a component of work placement to enhance skill development.

It has many benefits for students including, leading to higher Certificates in Hospitality studies and developing skills for future employment within the Hospitality industry.

The study constitutes two units in the VCE VET program and can be counted in the final number of units for completion of the VCE.
