English | Choose One Stream
Students in Year 9 study core English in Semester One and then choose a specialist English area to focus on in Semester Two.
Year 9 English
All students study English as a core subject in Semester One. In Semester Two, students will be able engage in an English course that is challenging, differentiated and driven by choice. To do this students will choose one of three English options. The content is specific to the choice of the option however the assessment type remains the same.
Overview
The English curriculum is built around three interrelated strands of: Language, Literature and Literacy. Together the strands focus on developing students’ knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating. In-school events and excursions such as performances, guest speakers and extended writing activities are an integral aspect of Year 9 English.

Assessment consists of text responses, oral presentations, creative writing, language analyses and end of semester exams.
Wild Imaginings
Overview
In this unit, human behaviour and its associated motivations are explored within different settings. Students who enjoy suspense, intrigue and imaginary worlds should select this unit. Some texts may be drawn from the mystery genre.

The Changing World Around You
Overview
This choice is for students who enjoy discussions about the changing world around us and the various dilemmas that come with these. The texts chosen have a focus on the future and may include texts from the science fiction and dystopian genres.

The Classics Stream
Overview
This choice is for students who enjoy reading traditional literature and are keen to explore the texts created by classic writers of the past. One of the texts studied will be a Shakespearean play.
