A very special artwork in the Welcome Building

Avila College’s new Welcome Building showcases a remarkable artwork by Cynthia Castaneda-Moreno (Class of 2024). This inspiring piece features Nano Nagle holding her lantern, symbolizing the light that first shone in Cork, Ireland, and continues to illuminate Mount Waverley, Australia. Drawing from Raphael Consedine PBVM’s evocative poem, “Take down your lantern from its niche and go out!”, Cynthia has created a powerful tribute to Nano Nagle’s enduring legacy—a reminder to all who enter the building of her unwavering spirit and dedication to education and compassion.
