Overview

This French unit is designed to give students an introduction to the French language and culture. A key emphasis is placed on high-frequency functional classroom language that students can use practically at school. The course’s communicative focus aims to ensure that students feel confident to speak to each other in French both within and outside of the classroom on a regular basis. A gesture-based approach is employed in this course which encompasses the use of song, dance, theatre and various literacy based activities that enable students to exchange information about themselves and others as well as communicate requests and commands in French.

Students are assessed in the macro skills of speaking, listening, viewing, reading and writing.

Overview

This Indonesian unit is designed to give students an introduction to Indonesian language and culture. Through the study of Indonesian students acquire the ability to understand the culture of Indonesia and, as they progress through the years, use the language of Australia’s closest and strategically important neighbour. During this unit students explore the richness and diversity of the 5 main islands of Indonesia. The topic areas and cultural information studied may include: greetings; adjectives; clothing and colours; the alphabet; numbers; cultural diversity; geography and the food of Indonesia.

Overview

The Italian course at Year 7 is designed to give students an introduction to the Italian language and culture. The students will use the interactive Avanti Tutta! text to guide them through the basic language skills from the first 2 chapters, which include greetings and introductions, description of self and others, together with a focus on the culture and geography of Italy.

Students are assessed in the macro skills of speaking, listening, viewing, reading and writing, which will take place across the semester.

Overview

Year 7 Art involves students making and responding to artworks, drawing on the world as a source of ideas. Students engage with and develop knowledge of visual arts, skills, techniques and processes, and use materials as they explore a range of forms, styles and contexts. Students learn to reflect critically on their own experiences and responses to the work of artists, craftspeople and designers and to develop their own arts’ knowledge. They learn, with growing sophistication, to express and communicate experiences through and about visual arts.

Year 7 Drama offers students a wide variety of drama activities including working with improvisation, scripts, voice, sound, mood, space, and theatre performance analysis.  Skills gained include confidence and increased self-esteem, acting and performance styles and conventions.  Students identify and connect features and purposes of drama from contemporary and past times, in order to explore viewpoints and enrich their drama making.  All performances are group-oriented.

Overview

The Year 7 Music program provides the opportunity for students to learn to read music notation and to apply that knowledge to  playing a musical instrument. Each student is encouraged to develop positive critical listening to aid working in a group or ensemble. They gain an appreciation for music and develop thinking skills. Students also undertake a study of the characteristics of orchestral instruments; traditional influences in contemporary Aboriginal music; and develop the appropriate language to talk about music.

• A screen recording on cyber citizenship
• A game in Scratch

Overview

In Year 7 Design and Technology (Textiles) students use design thinking and technologies to generate and produce a textile product.  Students are introduced to the safe use of tools, equipment and machines.  There is an in-class focus on production activities to develop their understanding of terminology, provide experience with handling textiles, and build on their machining skill and confidence.  Using predominantly recycled materials, the students are exposed to the environmental and social impacts of fast fashion and the textiles industry.  They generate ideas communicated through sketching and concept drawings.  In a journal, students record progress, reflect and set goals.

Overview

The purpose of this semester length subject is to introduce students to the characteristics and properties of foods and how these determine preparation techniques and presentation. They examine the topics of safety and hygiene, nutrition, sustainability and food miles. Food as a gift for festive and special occasions is also explored plus students are also introduced to the Design Process looking to investigate, develop design solutions, trial these proposals and evaluate with a focus on skill development over the semester.
